Automotive

I led the design of the mobile and web companion for the HERE connected navigation system. Collaboration across teams was key to the success of this project. I worked with the in-car design team on a coherent experience for all touchpoints. Also, with engineers working on iOS, Android and web applications.

Role: user experience and visual design

Some sketches for the mobile companion. The main focus was simple route planning and hand-over from companion to embedded system and back.

Mobile Companion

With the companion, the driver can plan a trip, find where the car is parked and get last-mile guidance to the destination. Places and routes are getting synced through the cloud so the car is ready to go. No need to search again on the embedded navigation system.

I worked with several customers on customizing the companion for their needs. Jaguar's 2015 XF was the first car that launched with the connected navigation system and companions.

A connected system like the HERE navigation has a lot of moving parts that have to be aligned. Product management, engineering, and designers from different parts of the company had to come together. This was sometimes challenging, but it was satisfying to be part of a successful launch of this product.
